The annual Awards — which are hosted by IMT and its publisher MPI Media — celebrate innovation, excellence and achievement in the Irish health system and recognise projects and individuals that have made a positive contribution to patient care.

The gala event at Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel on November 10 will be presented this year by Bobby Kerr, broadcaster, entrepreneur and former ‘Dragon’ on RTÉ’s Dragons’ Den. Entries can be made online at www.irishhealthcareawards.ie.

The Awards’ charity partner this year is Outreach Moldova (ORM) — an Irish Charity that protects orphaned, abandoned and often abused children with special needs, as well as those with terminal illnesses, in the Republic of Moldova.

The charity (www.outreachmoldova.org) was founded 16 years ago by a Dublin doctor, Dr Suzanne O’Connell, after she saw first-hand the horrendous conditions in which children in Moldovan state orphanages lived. Some 185 children lived in one orphanage with a death rate of 60 per year. Today, 700 children are in the care of ORM and, due to the exemplary medical care they receive, just 13 children have died over the past 14 years, due to incurable conditions.

Dr O’Connell and ORM have completely transformed the lives of the children under the charity’s care, literally giving them a second chance in life. And for terminally ill children, the organisation’s promise is that no child will ever die alone.

Now in their 15th year, the Irish Healthcare Awards are recognised as the most sought after in Irish healthcare, and are colloquially known as the ‘Oscars of the health services’. Visit http://www.irishhealthcareawards.ie/ to entrer
