Lee University professors Dr. Hermilo Jasso and Dr. Randall Miedaner presented at a university in Uruguay and a church in Argentina during a global perspectives trip.

Drs. Jasso and Miedaner spoke at the central headquarters of Universidad de la Empresa in Montevideo, Uruguay, and at one of the university’s branches, located in Colonia, Uruguay. This private university specializes in training students to be professionals at the highest level in the business world.

The professors’ presentations were addressed to graduate students of the university along with Lee students on the trip. At the Montevideo location, Drs. Jasso and Miedaner presented on corporate leadership and corporate culture and its effects on a company’s stock validation, respectively. At the Colonia location, Dr. Jasso spoke on United States business economics, and Dr. Miedaner presented a comparison of U.S. accounting and international standards.

“It was a pleasure to see our students interact with students from Uruguay,” said Dr. Jasso, an associate professor of business. “The exchanges between our students and the local students created an atmosphere of dialogue and enthusiastic conversations from different cultural points of view.”

Drs. Jasso and Miedaner also presented a talk at Iglesia Vida con Propósito, a Church of God in Buenos Aires, Argentina, founded by Lee alumnus Rubén Oscar Salamone and Eduardo Drachenberg, the superintendent of South America South Church of God Region. The presentation focused on the current changes of the church in South America.

“It was an incredible experience for our students to see what our church denomination is doing in the urban center of Buenos Aires, Argentina,” said Dr. Jasso.

Dr. Jasso joined Lee’s faculty in 1987 following a successful stint in the business world. Prior to his arrival at Lee, he worked as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch and as a financial analyst for Metropolitan Life. Dr. Jasso was the first recipient of the Janet Rahamut Faculty Award, and he has been a guest lecturer at multiple universities in South America.

Dr. Miedaner, assistant professor of business, came to Lee after serving as a senior vice president for a Fortune 100 investment bank and a tax attorney at a Top 100 law firm, as well as a CPA with a Big 4 Firm. He has been published in national periodicals, including the Wisconsin Lawyer, The Tax Advisor, and The National Public Accountant.
