The Oscar nominations are nearly here (Picture: Getty)

Hollywood awards season has officially kicked off with the Golden Globes – and now the question is: When do the Oscars nominations come out?

It’s the awards ceremony everyone waits patiently for: who will get the Best Actor Oscar? Who will win Best Actress? What will be the Best Film?

While many 2017 films were dubbed ‘Oscar contenders’ the official nominations have not yet been revealed.

So when are the Oscar nominations being announced?

Voting for the 90th Academy Awards nominations will close on Friday 12 January.

The nominations announcement will then take place on Tuesday 23 January.

When are the Academy Awards taking place?

The Oscars will then take place on Monday 4 March at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

For those wanting to stay up to watch it on our shores, the ceremony kicks off at 1am on Tuesday 5 March.

This year’s ceremony, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, has been pushed back from its usual late-February slot to avoid clashing with the Winter Olympics, which are running from 9 February to 25 February in South Korea.

It will be Kimmel’s second time hosting the ceremony.

Who is likely to be nominated?

Nominations for the awards ceremonies before the Oscars – including the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and the SAGs – usually give a good indication as to how the Oscar nominations will go.

To give you a steer, check out the Golden Globes nominations below.
