Outstanding Year! Squid Game Fame 'Jung Ho-Yeon' Gets Selected As Time's 100 Next Gen Leaders

Jung Ho-Yeon, the star of "Squid Game," has had an amazing year thus far thanks to the series' success and Emmy nominations. Now, she has been selected for US magazine Time has named her one of the 100 Next Gen leaders from various industries worldwide.

According to Yonhap, Jung was included in the 2022 Time 100 Next list's "phenoms" section along with tennis player Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and American actress Sydney Sweeney.

In five categories—artists, phenoms, innovators, leaders, and advocates—the Time 100 Next list honours up-and-coming leaders from around the globe who are defining the next generation of leadership. The only actor from Korea to appear on the list was Jung.

It appears like Squid Game is enjoying its success after its drama received six Emmy awards out of a total of 14 nominations. By taking home the top prizes at the 74th Annual Television Academy Awards, the Korean drama made history.

Squid Game became the first prime-time non-English TV programme to get an Emmy Award. Jung Ho-Yeon, who played Ji-Yeong, received the trophy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, and Lee Jung-Jae was named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of "Squid Game," made a reference to the model-turned-actress, who made her acting debut in the 2021 worldwide phenomenon survival drama.

As reported by IANS, Hwang said, "Ia-think Ho-Yeon is still fighting every day against her fame, the expectations and the jealousy of her success, as well as her own desires. I often joke around and call her a 'warrior.'"

He further continued, "There's no doubt that she has the skill and courage to fight her numerous battles. And I hope her acting career can become a true resting area, not her battleground."
