63 Titles Qualify for Animated Short Oscar Race

Under Academy rules, all films will be reviewed with 10 advancing to the short list at the end of November.

The list of official qualified short films for the 90th annual Academy Awards, which will be presented March 4, has been published by Cartoon Brew.

The list features 63 animated shorts in contention for the Oscar. That’s down from the 70 that qualified last year.

The qualified films are:

Under the rules for the 90th Academy Awards, volunteer active and life members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch will review all 63 shorts. The 10 most highly rated will advance to a short list, which will be announced in late November.

The shortlist films will be reviewed by a larger group of branch members, which will vote with the top-five films earning a nomination. Those film will be announced Jan. 23.

Final voting is open to the entire Academy, with the winner announced at the 90th annual Oscars on March 4.
