Award Winning Actress Sarah Cornell will Star as Dasha in the upcoming film

Canadian comedy sensation and Ovation Award winning actress Sarah Cornell to star in the film "Mail Order Bride," expected for release in 2016.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, July 15, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Award-winning actress Sarah Cornell, who is known for her roles as an improv comic on "Howie do it," NBC's new Howie Mandel show, and "Comedy Inc.," is slated to star in the upcoming comedy feature film "Mail Order Bride," expected for release summer 2016.

Currently in pre-production, the film follows a strange and lonely bachelor named Peter from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada who agrees to marry a woman from a foreign dating site, but instead is sent a Russian mail order bride named Dasha Kouzmavitch. At 6'2, the Amazonian Dasha, who will be played by Sarah Cornell, is a loudmouthed, overly exuberant optimist who turns Peter's life upside down.

Star Search Winner (2002) and international headlining comic, Tracey MacDonald, who worked with Cornell on "Get Lost!," said, “Sarah’s lovable portrayal of Dasha, the high spirited Russian mail order bride, will delight and captivate audiences everywhere.”

The film will be directed by Sarah Hamblin, the director behind the Leo Award winning series "Eat St.," and the popular YouTube morning show "Good Mystical Morning," which was awarded Best Variety Series at the International Academy of Web Television in 2013 and has over 1.3 billion views and over seven million subscribers.

"Mail Order Bride" is scheduled to begin filming this winter in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; and with Cornell as the star, as well as the writer and producer, the film is destined to be the next comedy hit.

Some people are just born with that funny bone in their body, and anyone who's seen Sarah Cornell perform knows that she is just one of those people. For years the Canadian-born actress has been making international audiences laugh to the point of tears through her performances on both the stage and screen; but what is even more astonishing is that her talent extends to screenwriting as well. In addition to starring in the film "Planet Sun," which premiered at the prestigious Slamdance Festival in 2010, Cornell also wrote and produced the film.

The actress first began making headlines over a decade ago when she starred on Broadway in the iconic role of Ulla in "The Producers," a role that has clearly set her apart from the majority of other actors.

"I had never even been to New York, and to walk down Times Square and see a huge billboard of 'The Producers' in which I would be starring was overwhelming. Especially since I would be replacing Tony Award winner, Cady Huffman," recalled Cornell.

Written by Oscar Award winner Mel Brooks ("Blazing Saddles," "Spaceballs," "Robin Hood: Men in Tights"), the Broadway production of "The Producers" was directed by Tony Award winner Susan Stroman, the director behind the 2005 four-time Golden Globe nominated film of the same name starring Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman.

Mel Brooks said, "Sarah Cornell is a talent of exceptional proportions."

The production won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, and Cornell went on to perform the same role in Toronto in 2004 where she was nominated for a Dora Award; and in 2009 she received the coveted Ovation Award from LA Stage Alliance for her revival of Ulla at Musical Theatre West.

Early on in her career Cornell landed the recurring role of Irina on the television series "At the Hotel." A dramedy musical created by Emmy nominee Ken Finkeman, the series aired on CBC TV and received incredible praise winning two Gemini Awards and being nominated for several others.

Since then, Cornell's profile has risen exponentially with the addition of the television shows "Howie Do It," and Global Television Network's award-winning animated series "Producing Parker" where she played the recurring role of Chicago Hyatt.

Cornell's unforgettable impersonations of celebrities, most notably Bjork and Paris Hilton, on the two-time Gemini Award nominated Canadian comedy series "Comedy Inc.," which aired on CTV, A-Channel and The Comedy Network, put the actress on the map as a genius impersonator. Not only did she embody these characters all the way down to their most minute mannerisms, but she was able to transform herself rather shockingly to look just like them as well.

As an actress, Cornell's unparalleled capacity for providing her audience with laugh out loud comedy moments has brought her to the forefront of the genre.

From looking at her collective body of work, it's practically a given that we will soon be seeing her on "Saturday Night Live"; in fact, earlier in her career she was selected as one of three actresses out of thousands who were chosen for an exclusive audition for the show with Primetime Emmy winning producer Lorne Michaels.

In addition to the Broadway production of "The Producers," Cornell has dazzled audiences across continents with her theater performances as Annie and Shelly in the Off-Broadway production of the musical "Evil Dead" at the Diesel Playhouse in Toronto, which won the Dora Audience Choice Award as Toronto's Favorite Show, Tasia in “Yorkville: The Musical" directed by Dora Award winner Donna Feore, and others.

While she has become a go-to comedic actress for a variety of roles, the actress's deep dedication to her craft is apparent in every character that she has taken on so it comes as no surprise that her unparalleled talents extend beyond genres.

"Acting allows me to express myself in a way that words never could. I feel that relating to a character and inhabiting their life is the ultimate act of empathy and compassion," said Cornell.

Through her work as an actress and a writer Sarah Cornell has continually proven herself as one of the best in the industry, and with many more projects underway, audiences can rest assured that we will be seeing a whole lot more of her for years to come.
